Q1: Reflecting on your journey at Nichols & Co., what experiences stand out as pivotal to your growth and success within the firm?
“It has been an amazing 15 years so far at Nichols & Co, I have had so many wonderful experiences, however I would say that coming in as an accounts senior, where my main focus was on the preparation of accounts and tax compliance work, to becoming a tax manager working alongside the clients, looking at ways we can improve procedures and functions to enable clients to maximise their accounting and tax efficiency to be able to enjoy more of the fruits of their labour, has been my main achievement during my time so far.”
Q2: Tax efficiency is a cornerstone of your client service philosophy. How do you approach achieving tax efficiency for your clients?
“The first thing that I like to do is have one-on-one time with the client to really get to know them and understand what it is that they wish to achieve with their business and what their long-term goals are.
Then I am able to tailor the particular support that we can offer here at Nichols & Co so that we are able to maximise our work in the areas that are required and streamline our services to offer the best possible solutions and outcomes.”
Q3: The COVID pandemic was a tumultuous time for many businesses and individuals. Can you share how you supported Nichols & Co. clients through this period?
“Although it was a tough period of time for everybody, the years that were affected by COVID were a time that we were able to get to know clients more, and also enabled us to see what areas that were of particular importance to each individual client.
We were able to support each of my clients during the unprecedented times during COVID, from helping self-employed clients to navigate cash flows to continue to trade, by way of advising on the SEISS grant system and eligibility criteria, to assisting larger clients with understanding the financial support that was available to them, including the CJRS PAYE scheme, Business Rates Relief and CBILS Loan opportunities to assist with cashflows. We were also able to go through restructuring their tax planning to enable them to continue to trade during the tough times.”
Q4: Mentorship is a significant aspect of your role. How do you approach mentoring junior team members at Nichols & Co.?
“In much the same way I do for my clients, I like to get to know the person taking up the role, see what their own goals are, and what they are looking to achieve.
This enables me to find out the areas that we need to dedicate more time and resources to ensure we are maximising the full potential of the individual and also ensures that the individual works well within the team here at Nichols & Co and adds to the resources and pool of expertise that we have here.
I believe that if you spend time investing in people, then they will look to invest in you.”
Q5: As you step into the role of partner, what are your goals for Nichols & Co.? How do you envision contributing to the firm’s future success?
“My main goal is to continue the great success that we are already having in assisting and advising our clients, and helping them to grow their businesses, and financial output.
I will be looking to bring a fresh dynamic that will mean that we are able to continue to grow and help even more clients that are looking to make use of the expertise that we have to offer here at Nichols & Co.
I feel incredibly honoured to have this opportunity, and I’m committed to building on our firm’s legacy of excellence by making sure we stay at the top of our field and consistently outperform our clients’ expectations.”
We thank you, our clients and colleagues, for your ongoing trust and support, and we look forward to embarking on this exciting new phase of our journey with you.
